Miami Police Claim to Bust Prostitution Ring Ran by Local Woman

| Aug 22, 2017 | In the News |

Miami-Dade police officers claim to have broken up a two-location prostitution ring after arresting a local woman. Beckham Solis, Attorneys at Law and our Miami criminal defense attorneys have been retained to serve as defense counsel in this ongoing case.

According to the police investigation, the woman ran her prostitution operation out of one location in Doral and another closer to the heart of Miami. The investigation was initiated after an anonymous source told the police of the Doral location, which was allegedly hidden within a day spa.

Detectives claim two undercover operatives were used in a brief sting operation to bust the prostitution ring. One officer was apparently disguised as a female interested in working at the day spa. The other was a male posing as a John, or someone who solicits prostitutes for sexual favors. The detectives reportedly became suspicious after the female operative was told of a cash-only policy for massage services, and that employees would be paid a direct percentage of each massage fee, rather than an hourly or salary rate.

The woman, who has been identified as Yaneth Ramos, has been charged with several sex crimes. The list of charges include maintaining a house of prostitution, money laundering, and more. Some of these crimes could potentially constitute a felony. Regardless of the exact severity of the charges, the consequences if a conviction is secured by the prosecution could be significant, including years of imprisonment and thousands of dollars in fines and fees.

Our team at Beckham Solis, Attorneys at Law are adamant about upholding the rights of the accused and keeping the criminal justice system honest. We are currently managing Ms. Ramos’s defense case and looking into areas of weakness in the investigator’s claims and prosecution’s potential case. There is always an element of caution when police go undercover to make an arrest, as unjust entrapment can be a common occurrence. Our objectives is securing the best possible outcome for our client, whether that be charge reductions, a case dismissal, or a not guilty verdict.
