Miami police officer, Jose R. Acosta, who was on the force for less than a year, was arrested and charged with one count of armed burglary and one count of armed grand theft this month. Miami Deputy Police Chief Luis Cabrera said that he was relieved of duty without pay and will be fired.
Acosta, arrested in a sting operation, was accused of pulling over drivers and shaking them down, betraying his oath of office as a public servant. The rookie cop’s last assignment was patrolling Wynwood. Although Cabrera did not take any questions, he stated that such actions, which contradict the duty to serve and protect the community, will not be tolerated by the Miami Police Department.
